About Bahrain Network

IET Bahrain Network Chairman

Dr. Ebrahim AL-Gallaf

The Bahrain Network of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK) was originally established in 1994 under the name of the IEE Bahrain Centre. The total membership of the IET Bahrain Network is currently more than 100 members.

The the IEE Bahrain Centre was officially opened under the patronage of the Minster of Power and Water during that time. The Centre, when established, located its office within the premises of the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE) in Manama. Since that time, the Network has gone through a number of stages of development in addition to large number of activities that indeed served the Electrical and Electronics engineering professionals in Bahrain.

Not to mention the fact that the IET Bahrain Network during that time has been involved and helped in organizing two conferences in both 1995 and 2000 that were related to Electrical and Electronics Engineering held in Bahrain (under the name of 1st and 2nd Computer in Industry).

However, as Bahrain is currently undergoing major development within the context of construction, highways, and other industrial development, this will rather dictate the fact that IET Bahrain Network should play a major role in terms of resolving issues related to Engineering and Technology that appear from time to time to the professional bodies in Bahrain.

Nevertheless,  the issue of modern technology and its relation to the profession has put a huge burden on the shoulders of Engineers due to fast developments within such fields on a global scale.

When the new IET Bahrain Network committee was elected on the 28th of March 2006 technical seminars were immediately planned and executed.  Our recent activities have been very successful and have introduced the IET to non members and other Engineers alike. We have been able to attract professional speakers who feel honoured to be asked to give a talk at the IET-Bahrain Network.

The IET-Bahrain Network committee members are determined to make this session of activities as successful as possible. There are a number of issues which may hinder successful events which are to be tackled over time. From these: effective communication (mail and email) to all members. In addition, advertising within professional local Companies and Farms.

The professional society in Bahrain is not setup for that sort of activities, especially when it comes to the practitioner and technician levels. Schools and students not aware of any professional diversities, (where Faraday’s Lecture could be one way to make such an attraction and awareness). However, the (IET) members in Bahrain have the confidence related to the activities and its role.

To enhance and bring such a confidence needs some time. This will be done over the coming months. The IET Bahrain Network has been set up to organise activities for IET members, to promote engineering and technology to non members in Bahrain, and to co-ordinate local activities with the IET in the UK.

The Network has planned some local activities including industrial visits, annual sessions, younger membership drive, monthly and annual seminars, professional training and development short courses, running Faraday lectures, and an organisation of big events such as a conference.  All details and forthcoming activities can be found at the Network website at www.theiet.org/bahrain
