Prices for IET Journals online subscriptions will not be increasing in 2011.
The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) is pleased to announce that prices for IET Journals online subscriptions for 2011 will be frozen at the 2010 level. This will prove great value to online subscribers as they will be getting more great value from IET Journals for the same price. Current Online customers, or those switching to online from Print or Combined subscriptions, will find everything is increasing - apart from the price!
IET Journals offers:
- Greater quality: impact factors have risen across all eligible IET Research Journals this year.
- More content: 2011 will see 15 per cent more content, with some journals as much as doubling their output.
- Quicker delivery: eight journals are increasing in frequency, with Micro & Nano Letters now appearing monthly.
- Additional coverage: two new journals will launch in March 2011 (IET Electrical Systems in Transportation and IET Wireless Sensor Systems).

IET Journals go from strength to strength
Thomson Reuters’ leading citation index, the Web of Science, has recognised all IET Research Journals, with 18 titles gaining notable increases in their impact factor scores, one title receiving it's debut score and the latest title - IET Power Electronics - added to the Thomson database.
Every journal in the Web of Science receives an impact factor score in June each year, when Thomson Reuters publishes its Journal Citation Report. The impact factor is a measure of the number of citations within scientific journals. It is used to gauge the relative importance of a scientific journal within its field.
Daniel Smith, Head of Academic Publishing, at the IET said: “This is gratifying news. Not only have we succeeded in increasing the impact factors of all previously included titles across the portfolio, but also our two most recently launched titles have been accepted for inclusion. Despite the continuing rapid expansion of journals publishing, the market is increasingly focused on quality and I think we can confidently say this result is a validation of the excellence of IET Journals’ content.”
The IET Information Security Journal recorded the greatest leap, with an impact increase of 227 per cent, while the IET Renewable Power Generation Journal became eligible for its first impact factor since its inclusion in the database in 2009.
The Web of Science is the world’s leading citation index, with multidisciplinary content from nearly 12,000 of the top-tier international and regional journals. Of the 2,500 journals submitted for consideration in this database annually, only 10-12 per cent are selected for inclusion. All research journals published by the IET feature in the Web of Science. The newest title in IET's portfolio, IET Power Electronics (launched too recently to receive an impact factor), also received good news: it has been successful in its application for inclusion in the Web of Science. The journal will receive its first impact factor in 2011.

Editor Achievement Award for Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi
Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi has received the first Research Journal Editor Achievement Award from the Institution of Engineering and Technology, for his outstanding work not only in editing IET Computers & Digital Techniques but also in contributing to other areas of the IET’s publishing operation.
Professor Al-Hashimi has been the editor-in-chief of IET Computers & Digital Techniques for the last five years. Since his appointment, he has relaunched the journal to reflect emerging and new trends in system-on-chip, low power embedded computing systems and CAD tools; has appointed a high quality editorial board from the electronics design and test community; and forged strong links with many major conferences in the field. As a result the submission rate and quality has increased significantly and the journal is now recognized as one of the leading journals in its field.
Publisher Stuart Govan said: “This award is intended to recognize outstanding contributions to IET journals in particular and our publishing operation in general. Professor Al-Hashimi is a most worthy recipient of this first award. I have worked closely with him for the last five years and have always been impressed with his vision, energy and commitment to the journal. He has worked extraordinarily hard on improving the quality of IET CDT and commissioning high quality articles in the form of invited papers and themed issues.
"While this publishing award primarily recognizes his contribution to IET Computers & Digital Techniques, it also recognizes his work in editing the highly regarded and popular IET book (System-on-Chip: Next Generation Electronics) and efforts in forging close links between the IET and the Design, Automation and Test in Europe (DATE) conference as part of his association with the IET Technical Professional Network on Microelectronics and Signal Processing”.
"I am delighted that I am the recipient of the first IET Editor Achievement Award," said Professor Al-Hashimi, "and I look forward to moving the journal forward to establish it as the journal of choice for researchers worldwide to publish their new research results in the area of computer engineering."
